Research Highlight

Sketch of rainfall mechanism over the rain shadow region

Rainfall mechanism over the rain-shadow region of north peninsular India during the summer monsoon season has been investigated using dynamic, thermodynamic, cloud microphysics and cloud dynamic (CMCD) forcings.
Daily rainfall, wind, divergence, wind shear, vertical velocity profile and thermodynamic parameters have been used. Aircraft data also has been used to study CMCD parameters.
The analysis of large scale dynamical, thermodynamical, and CMCD parameters leads to understanding of the rainfall mechanism over the rain-shadow region.
