Modeling Ocean Diurnal Cycle and its Scale Interaction to Longer Scale Climate Variabilities
Earlier, it was believed that an improved simulation of the diurnal cycle of precipitation could only be achieved through parameterization of cloud/convection schemes. However, in our recent modeling work, we showcased an effective approach to improve the diurnal cycle of precipitation by implementing a diurnal ocean skin temperature and COARE 3.0 flux algorithm in CFSv2. This also helped us to overcome some of the well-known multiscale (diurnal, intra-seasonal, seasonal and inter-annual) coupled model problems.
