Open Day at IITM: National Science Day-2024

IITM celebrated the National Science Day on 28 February 2024 (wednesday) by observing an open day at its premises from 10 am to 5 pm. As part of the open day, students/visitors were taken on a guided tour of the various labs/facilities at IITM to get a feel of the joy of doing science. This also offered an opportunity to interact with institutes’ researchers and scientists, and to have a joyful experience of learning about weather and climate sciences.

Highlights of the Day:

• Visit to the Dendro lab, SAFAR hut, ENVIS Lab, Fluid Dynamics Lab, Isotope/mass spectrometry lab,  wind tunnel lab & Damini App, HPC, Library, and more.
• Brief about IITM's R&D activities in the Varahamihira Hall by Dr. Somnath Mahapatra, Scientist-F providing an in-depth understanding of the impactful work undertaken by IITM researchers.
• Screening of IITM films, offering a comprehensive overview of the institute's mission and achievements.
• Interaction of students with Director and scientists of IITM
• Around 400 visitors including 350 students from schools and colleges visited the institute.

On the occasion of National Science Day, a team of women researchers from IITM participated in the two days Science Expo at GMRT, Khodad, Narayangaon  during 28-29 February 2024 by setting up a stall showcasing the cutting-edge research and development activities conducted at IITM.
