Establishment of International Monsoons Project Office (IMPO)
This is a joint effort by WMO and IITM to help coordinate monsoon research across the world.
A new agreement signed between the Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Director of Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), with the kind approval of the Hon’ble Minister of Earth Sciences, Govt. of India to host an International Monsoons Project Office (IMPO) at IITM, initially for five years with effect from 30 July 2021, to support monsoon research activities of the World Weather Research Programme (WWRP) and the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP).
