A half day regional climate change workshop, entitled 'Climate Proofing of Jalyukta Shivar Abhiyan (JSA) : Validation' was held on 8 August 2017 at IITM, Pune. The event was organized jointly by Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR), Pune and IITM Pune.
Around 22 high level officials from Ministry of agriculture and irrigation , Govt of Maharashtra attended the workshop. During the workshop, various aspects of present status of Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan (Water conservation practices) in Maharashtra was reviewed on the basis of Study conducted by Action on Climate Today (ACT) DfID-UK and Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR). Appropriate recommendations were proposed for climate proofing of the JSA programme with particular focus for ‘enhancing soil and water conservation capability using appropriate area and drainage treatments’ in the context of regional and global climate change.
A lead talk on "Climate Variability, change and likely impacts over Maharashtra" was delivered by Dr. (Mrs.) Ashwini Kulkarni, Project Director, IITM Pune.
An invited talk entitled "COSMOS-India Network : The field scale soil moisture monitoring" was delivered by Dr. Milind Mujumdar, Scientist, Centre for Climate Change Research, IITM Pune.
